Daikin Air Conditioner Blowing Cold Air in Winter? Here’s What Might Be Wrong
June 30th, 2025
Daikin Air Conditioner

You turn on your reverse cycle air conditioner, but it is refusing to blow warm air. Now what? Thankfully, there are ways you can get it working; however, you need to figure out the cause!

When was the last time you had your heater serviced? Neglecting your climate system can lead to system failure, and nobody wants that.

This article is your best guide to Daikin air conditioning troubleshooting and how you can stay cosy during cold nights.

Daikin Heat Mode Not Working?

Daikin Air Conditioner

Let’s take a look at some of the potential heating issues with your unit. You might be able to narrow down what you need to do.

Blocked filters or coils

If air filters or coils become blocked, this restriction of airflow affects the heating and cooling capacity of your Daikin system. Regular maintenance, such as coil cleaning and filter replacements, will keep the hot air coming.

Refrigerant levels are low

The refrigerant is a liquid that helps the air conditioner transfer heat. If these levels are low, the Daikin air con won’t be able to transfer heat and can stop the heat mode from working.

How do you fix this problem? HVAC technicians can re-gas your air conditioner to top up the refrigerant levels.

The reversing valve is faulty

Allowing your system to switch from cooling to heating mode, a faulty one will mess with the heating. This issue is too dangerous to DIY, so make sure to reach out to a qualified HVAC technician.

Incorrect temperature settings

What do your temperature settings look like? If they are set wrong, your Daikin aircon will expel cold air instead of hot air.

If you aren’t sure about the settings or need help with the programming, reach out to a qualified technician to guide you through the steps.

Dirty outdoor unit

Never ignore the unit outside. Responsible for the transfer of heat from the inside of your home to the outside, if it becomes dirty, the heat mode is pretty much non-existent.

Defrost cycle issues

Sometimes, the heating mode of your Daikin air conditioner won’t work due to the frost cycle.

Preventing ice from building up in the outdoor unit, the defrost process is where the indoor unit blows cold air in order to heat up the outdoor unit. When this cycle is broken, your system won’t heat your home.

Faulty thermostat

Without a thermostat, your system won’t work at all. If a thermostat isn’t working properly, it won’t send the correct signals to the air conditioner, which can lead to problems with the heat mode.

Circuit breaker and fuse issues

Malfunctioning circuit breakers or defective fuses are other reasons your Daikin system is blowing cold air!

Circuit trips or damaged fuses stop your heating system from reaching the desired heating temperature you want.

Here are some specific things you might be experiencing:

Warm air does not flow after starting the heating operation. This isn’t your air conditioner malfunctioning, the aircon is just warming up! Wait about 3 minutes.

Aircon still operates even when dehumidifying, dry cooling, or cooling options are off? Check if the mould-proof automatic setting is set to on. If the setting is on, mould-proof operation is activated after dehumidifying.

The heating operation stops unexpectedly, and you hear water flowing? This is not the air conditioning system malfunctioning; the system is in defrost operation on the outdoor unit. Aim for around 3 to 10 minutes.

Common Troubleshooting for Daikin Systems

Daikin Air Conditioner

As well as cold air instead of warm air being frustrating, there are other problems you might cross paths with. Here’s what to do.

Your Daikin system won’t turn on

If your Daikin inverter isn’t turning on, there are a few things you can do to reset the aircon. Is the on/off button off?

  • > Make sure the power cord is connected to the outlet
  • > Double-check the batteries in your remote
  • > Check to see if the timer has been set
  • > Check that the fuse isn’t blown and there isn’t a power failure

Is there an operation lamp flashing (the green flashing light)?

  • > Unplug the system from power or check the circuit breaker
  • > Wait for at least 60 seconds, then turn the power back on
  • > If the operating lamp is still flashing, contact your retailer or a heating and cooling expert

Airconditioner does not operate (the operator lamp is off)

  • > Turn off the air conditioner
  • > Switch off the air conditioner’s circuit breaker for 20 minutes
  • > Turn the air conditioner circuit breaker back on
  • > Turn the air conditioner on and check the status of the operating light

What are some dedicated locations of the breaker for the air conditioner? The breaker for the air conditioner is in the main fuse box, but if you’re unsure on where it is, check with your aircon installer or a qualified electrician.

How do you know when it’s working?  The operation light is flashing again, or the air con operates, but the air con lamp starts flashing again. If the operator light is flashing, it’s likely that your system is malfunctioning.

Note: turning off the main breaker will turn off all power to your property. Do not turn off the main breaker!

The air conditioner operates even though the operation lamp is not lit

If the monitor’s bright setting in the settings menu is set to OFF, the operation lamp does not light even during operation.

The air conditioner blows out cold air when dehumidifying starts

Don’t worry! The unit discharges cold air quickly to reduce humidity.

The air conditioner does not heat or cool the room well

Check the following things before contacting your service provider:

  • > Is the temperature and the operation mode properly set by the remote controller?
  • > Are air quantity and direction properly controlled?
  • > Are air filters clean?
  • > Are areas directly below or next to the air conditioner blocked by furniture or other objects?
  • > Are windows and doors closed?
  • > Has the ventilation fan stopped?

Operation stops unexpectedly when the ON timer is set (operation lamp is on)

This is not a malfunction of the air conditioner. When the ON timer is set, operation starts up to 1 hour before the time set to reach the set point.

If the remote controller is operated during this time, the operation automatically stops. Restart the operation after using the remote.

The ON/OFF button on the main unit or the remote controller does not work

Stop operation, unplug the power cord or turn off the circuit breaker and contact the place of purchase.

Operation stops unexpectedly (the operation lamp on the main unit flashes)

Check the following before calling up an HVAC service:

  • > Are the air filters clean? If not, clean them and restart the operation using the remote controller. If the operation lamp still flashes, disconnect the power plug from the outlet or turn the breaker off and contact the place of purchase.
  • > Are there objects blocking the air inlet or outlet of the indoor/outdoor unit? Remove them and restart the operation using the remote controller.

Does not operate immediately when the operation is restarted after stopping, or the operation mode has changed

This is not a malfunction of the air conditioning system; this function protects the air conditioner. Please wait for around 3 minutes.

Daikin Aircon Maintenance: What You Should Know

Calling up a professional is great, but it’s a good idea to know how to maintain your Daikin system yourself throughout the year.

What maintenance is needed for a new air conditioner?

Cleaning and maintaining the air filters is the minimum requirement. Any buildup of dust or dirt restricts airflow and cuts back the energy efficiency and heating capacity of your system.

Does your Daikin air conditioner need re-gassing?

If the air conditioner is installed correctly, regassing won’t be necessary.  That said, if the pipe connections are not fitted, tightened to the right torque, or have degraded over a period of time, there could be a leak. If you do suspect a gas leak, reach out to an HVAC professional ASAP.

How often should you clean the air filters?

Every 2 weeks. Wash them with water or clean them with a vacuum cleaner. If you’re dealing with heavy soiling, wash the filters with a neutral detergent diluted with tepid water and let the filter dry out in a shady place.

Look at the Daikin Cora split system, which is wall-mounted.

The Cora

The Cora series has a whisper-quiet operation, superior comfort, and industry-leading energy efficiency. Features include:

  • > R32 Refrigerant: Enables increased energy efficiency and a reduction in Global Warming Potential Factor.
  • > Pushing the POWERFUL button on the remote control gives you a boost in cooling or heating power for a 20-minute period.
  • > 2-Area-Intelligent Eye: Wall-mounted indoor units feature Daikin’s Intelligent Eye human sensor for energy saving when the room is unoccupied.
  • > Room temperature can be set in increments of 0.5°C for comfortable conditions all year round.
  • > Coanda Airflow: Discharge louvres designed to stream air along the ceiling for rapid cooling and temperature distribution.
  • > Air-Purification: Enzyme blue deodorising air purification filter traps microscopic particles, decomposes odours and bacteria.
