Brivis Heating: Fast Troubleshooting

Brivis Heater

Are you unsure if you need to troubleshoot your Brivis heater? Here are some things to keep an eye out for!

Knocking or banging sounds

Broken or loose components inside the heater, such as blower fan blades or internal panels, can cause loud banging when the unit starts or shuts down. These noises sometimes are the final parts that are loosening, which could snowball into further damage if they break free during operation.

It’s a good idea to turn off the heater and call up a technician to take a closer look at the internal components.

Hissing sounds

Hissing sounds are serious as they may indicate air escaping from ductwork seals or a potential gas leak, which you cannot ignore.

Gas leaks pose a fire or health risk if you’re not quick to address them. Turn off the heater and call a technician immediately.

Vibrating or rattling

A shaking or rattling sound might be screws, loose panels, other internal parts, or debris inside the unit or ductwork.

It can be serious as loose parts may damage other components and cause the Brivis heater system to break down.

For a whistling unit, clean the return air grille and filter, if installed.

Screeching or high-pitched sounds

A worn-out motor bearing, a malfunctioning blower motor, or a damaged fan belt are some of the possible reasons for this.

Why is it serious? These parts of your Brivis heater are part of air circulation and heat distribution, and if ignored, can fail and cause the entire heating system to break down.

Do not modify the electrical wiring of this appliance. If the control power wiring is damaged or deteriorated it must be replaced by an authorised person. Failing to do so can result in fire, electric shock, serious injury or product failure.

Clicking that doesn’t stop

One or two clicks during startup is normal, but constant clicking indicates a faulty ignition system, flame sensor or control board issue.

If your Brivis heater won’t ignite properly, it may restart repeatedly, wasting energy and increasing the chances of a gas leak. This is a sign that professional servicing is needed, as these components are important for safe heater operation and can stop your system from starting at all. You don’t want to mess around with parts that deal with fuel, fire, and sparks.

With gas ducted heating, your fan might be running at maximum capacity to heat the house, and the burner will be idling. Consider dropping the RPM on the fan for the unit, and if you have 6 zone,s for example, you can shut some of the outlets in your home that you don’t use as often.

There’s also a chance that your thermostat is malfunctioning, and this affects how much heat is being produced. The pilot light or gas could affect the accuracy of the thermostat.

What are some other potential problems?

The heater isn’t turning on

If your Brivis ducted heating is not turning on, there’s a possibility of a blown fuse, a tripped circuit breaker, or a clogged air filter. This could also mean that the Brivis wall controller has not been set or the AC isn’t receiving enough power.

How do you fix the issue? Check to see if the wall’s controller setting is correct and the batteries are working, look for blown fuses, and ensure to clean the unit’s air filter and drain pipe. If, however, you haven’t found any potential causes, speaking to a qualified technician is always a good idea.

The heater isn’t heating your spaces

Not heating like it’s supposed to, and you’re feeling a lot of cold spots? The Brivis wall controller might be set incorrectly, or the filters may have accumulated a lot of debris and dirt; either way, you can fix this yourself.

When air filters clog, airflow can get obstructed and stop hot air, so they need to be cleaned out regularly.

Faulty ignition is what starts the whole heating process. The causes? Inadequate gas supply or the pilot light failing to turn on. The pilot light could be covered with soot, so double-check.

Tips to Keep Your Brivis Heating Unit Running

What is done during a service?

  • > Burners are cleaned
  • > The ignition system is checked or adjusted
  • > The fan assembly is checked and cleaned
  • > The heat exchanger is cleaned and checked
  • > The gas supply flow and lock-up pressure are checked

The return air filter, where fitted, must be cleaned at least every two weeks during the heating system’s use. A dirty air filter reduces the efficiency, effectiveness and air quality of the system. The filter is usually located in the return air grille, either on the wall or on the ceiling within the home.

To clean washable filters, remove the filter and clean with a vacuum cleaner. The filter may also be washed with warm, soapy water, and ensure the filter is fully dry before installing it.

As for the heater unit, a periodic inspection is needed to ensure vegetation has not grown around the unit, such as weeds. The cabinet should be cleaned and have recommended clearances maintained. There should be no water buildup (including from cthe ondensate drain) on or around the unit.
