So you’ve just purchased a Brivis heater to stay cosy during winter. Congratulations! Brivis are renowned for providing years of trouble-free performance, but that doesn’t mean they won’t need some TLC!
To ensure that your Brivis system is always in perfect condition and working at optimal performance, it’s always a good idea to detect minor problems and get them resolved early on.
With that in mind, let’s explore the benefits of regular maintenance for your Brivis heater, fixes for troubleshooting, and how tackling things early will prevent costly repairs.
The system consists of three major components (a heater, a ductwork system, and a wall control). The heater draws air from the house through a large, centrally located return air duct into the heater, where it is warmed.
This air is distributed throughout your home through a network of smaller ducts and released into each room through floor or ceiling outlets. If possible, your wall control controls the process (usually positioned in a lounge room on an internal wall) and away from doors and windows.
Servicing your Brivis heater has more benefits than downsides!
If you don’t routinely maintain your Brivis heater, it might not heat spaces as intended. Filters can accumulate too much dust and debris, and if they become clogged, the airflow is obstructed, so your heater can’t blow out hot air.
Likewise, the ignition is what begins the heating process, and a faulty one won’t heat your home. Causes of ignition issues can be an inadequate gas supply or the pilot light not turning on (if the nozzle of the pilot light is clogged with soot).Where a pilot light or gas supply is involved, it’s unsafe to maintain it yourself.
Dirty air filters, a faulty pilot light, low batteries, or incorrect Wall Controller settings can cause your systems to blow cold air, and servicing can prevent this!
Dirt, dust, and hair entering your filter can clog it and obstruct airflow to the burners (where air is warmed), resulting in cold air. If you use your heater daily, clean your filters at least every 3 months.
A faulty pilot light creating a clogged nozzle can also prevent the flame from igniting, and this is a dangerous job for an untrained professional. However, if you’re dealing with incorrect Brivis Wall Controller settings, it’s an easier fix; simply check if the Wall Controller is set to “on”, look at the temperature setting, and adjust it to a higher number than your home temperature.
Restricted airflow from filters makes a heater work harder than it needs to heat your space, resulting in the safety switch tripping. Cleaning debris and dust regularly helps prevent this. You can washable filters with a vacuum cleaner or wash them with warm, soapy water. Make sure the filter is completely dry before installing it.
If the wiring in your Brivis heater is loose, it can lead to arcing, which can cause your safety switch to trip. Loose wiring in any electrical system should not be handled alone!
Damaged or improperly installed ductwork (especially when zoning is installed) can stop warm air from the ducted heating system from reaching roof vents, while damaged ductwork can cause air to leak. No air may come out of some vents.
When it comes to reinstalling ductwork or making repairs, a specialist in HVAC systems is needed.
Loose panels, a faulty motor, or badly installed ductwork can cause your heater to make odd noises.
Tightening screws and stopping them from rattling helps loose panels; switch your heater off and on post-repairs and see if it’s still making noise. For reliable repairs for your Brivis heater, Aust Climate offers heating and cooling services to Glen Iris, Rowville, Park Orchards, Templestowe, and Mount Waverley homes across Melbourne.
Is there a burning smell or smoke coming from your Brivis heater? If so, switch it off immediately, as this can indicate a serious problem with your heater.
How often should your Brivis be serviced? At least every two years!
Types of maintenance could include duct cleaning, killing potential dust mites and breeding, removing odours throughout your heating system, removing pet hair, cleaning the fan and assembly, cleaning the supply air register, cleaning the air grill and duct, assessing if a return air filter is installed, and more.

Brivis Owners Manual, Terms of Warranty
Whether you’re struggling with the remote controller or an unexpected heating malfunction, here are some common troubleshooting issues and how you can fix them. Your Brivis system may also qualify for warranty repairs.
When the operating hours logged for your heater have reached their duration, the spanner symbol will flash once per second on the networker. The spanner icon could also appear after a recent service, as the internal clock cannot be reset. How do you clear this icon for the Brivis StarPro SP and BX5 models?
For Brivis Classic models: if your Brivis Networker display screen shows a normal operation (a solid flame symbol) for more than 8 minutes with any operation of the heater (no heat or fan) there may be a minor disruption. Try turning the Brivis Networker off, then back on.
These error codes can indicate an overheating condition, and the fan will operate at maximum speed.
Check that the duct system has sufficient outlets open, that the ceiling/floor register and the baffle are completely open and don’t restrict air movement, and that the return air filter is sized correctly, clean, and has no obstructions in the return air grille.
A lockout has occurred on the pressure switch by restricting the flue pipe or condensate drain. Strong wind conditions can make the pressure switch open due to air blowing down the flue.
Double-check your flue pipe and condensate piping for blockages.
After four ignition attempts, the heater has been locked out, but you can clear this error by restarting it using the reset button.
Check that the gas supply is turned on at the meter and appliance gas cock, see if other appliances are operating (such as a gas cooker or hot water), check if the gas cylinders have gas, and the cylinder valve is open (LPG), and that you have an adequate gas supply to your property.
You may need to contact your gas supplier if there are issues in your area due to work or gas supply issues. For a detailed guide, here are some signs that your heater needs immediate repair!
